Questions about Damp Walls
We are not expert in diagnosing damp causes so you would need to use a damp survey company for this. We can help cure the damp problem once it has been correctly diagnosed.
Penetrating damp is quite rare and is often mis-diagnosed when the cause is really condensation damp. If you are certain it is penetrating damp then our range of extreme weather-resistant renders will stop driven rain from penetrating and we also offer a clear coat for brick or stone walls when rendering is not an option.
Our renders are micoroporous which means they stop the water from entering the wall but allow moisture from the inside to escape. Therefore they will allow the internal wall to dry out whilst keeping the outer wall dry
Whilst rendering will keep the wall dry and therefore raise the core temperature you may still need to use an insulation render to guarantee the condensation will completely disappear. We recommend that ensuring good ventilation and a constant room temperature are tried first as a cure for condensation before going to the considerable expense of insulating or standard render.
Rising damp cannot really get any higher than a metre up the wall from ground level unless it is pressurised water from a very high water table or you are in a flood plain. So,if the damp is at ceiling height or on the first floor it cannot be rising damp. If the damp is within a metre of the ground level then it could be any of the above so you should call in a damp specialist.
